Acclimatising in Ladakh: why we never rush the first two days

CNE Travel Desk, 20 October 2026

Leh sits at 3,500 metres. A slow start is the single most important part of any Ladakh itinerary.

Why it matters

Flying straight into Leh takes you from near sea level to 3,500 m in an hour. The body needs time to adjust.

How we plan for it

  • Two full nights in Leh before any high pass
  • Gentle walks only on the first day
  • Plenty of water, no alcohol early on
  • Oxygen carried in every vehicle

If you prefer an even gentler approach, consider arriving by road from Srinagar, gaining height over several days.

Tell us how you’d like to travel, and we’ll shape the rest

Every CNE journey is private and planned from scratch with one of our specialists in Srinagar, Leh or Jammu. There’s no obligation and no fee to start.
